For a moment I thought this was it.
But no. GTA 6 slips again. Another few months. It feels like standing in a supermarket queue for ages and someone suddenly wheels in a full cart and steps in front of you. You just look at it, shrug, and think, sure, why not, makes sense.
Take Two announced it yesterday in their earnings release. It’s now 26 November 2026. Half a year later than the previous date. And that one was already a delay. First it was set for 2025. Then it became May 2026. Now November. You can almost hear the project manager on the other side of the screen breathing heavily. One last sprint. One last layer of polish. And of course Rockstar has “their full support”. That always sounds like someone standing behind you with his hands in his pockets saying, take your time, we believe in you, while everyone knows the pressure is just ramping up.
Strauss Zelnick said in an interview that he is “confident in the date, that’s why we set it”. Lines like that always make me a bit tired. Because yes, wasn’t that also said in May. And in 2023 when they first announced it. It feels a bit like when your kid tells you his homework is nearly done. You know it’s not true, but you let it slide for a moment.
Meanwhile the clock keeps ticking. Thirteen years after GTA 5, if they make this date. Thirteen. In that time some people get a degree, a marriage and a divorce done. And of course all the other studios who had quietly moved their releases out of the way will now have to shuffle again. Q4 is crowded enough, but fine, let’s add another little dance.
I get it though. A game like this isn’t something you cook up between errands. And nobody wants a half-baked GTA. But there’s something funny in how we all react. We sigh. We mumble something about polish. And then we’ll all be first in line anyway. We’re children staring at a candy that someone keeps sliding a bit further away. You still keep looking.
