Who is responsible

Reinout te Brake operates reinouttebrake.com, a personal editorial publication based in the Netherlands. He is responsible for how personal information is used for this website and its correspondence. For privacy questions or requests, email reinouttebrake@gmail.com.

When you contact me

The contact form asks for your name, email address and message. These details are sent through FormSubmit to my Gmail inbox so I can read and respond to your question, correction or story suggestion. You can also email me directly instead of using the form. Providing these details is voluntary, but I need a return address to reply.

The purpose is to handle the conversation you initiate and any relevant follow-up. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in receiving and responding to correspondence. Your message is not a newsletter subscription and the form does not add you to a marketing list. Correspondence is kept for the enquiry and necessary follow-up; legal obligations or related claims can require longer retention. You can request deletion using the email address above.

Hosting and security

The site is published through OpenAI Sites and delivered using Cloudflare infrastructure. Delivering and protecting a website involves processing technical request data, such as IP address, requested URL, browser information and time of access. Cloudflare may set a security cookie, including __cf_bm, to distinguish ordinary requests from automated abuse. Provider security logs and their retention are governed by the providers’ services and policies; they are separate from the performance measurements described below.

The purpose is to serve pages, prevent abuse and investigate technical failures. The legal basis for this processing is the legitimate interest in operating a reliable, secure publication.

Limited performance measurements

The site measures loading speed, layout stability and responsiveness to find technical problems. Its own measurement database records the page path, timing values, a mobile or desktop category, navigation type, software release and a generated measurement identifier. It does not store your IP address, name, email address, cookies, full browser string, referrer, URL query parameters or message text. The identifier belongs to a performance measurement, rather than a persistent reader account.

The measurement code does not use tracking cookies or browser storage. Collection is skipped when the browser exposes Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. Records older than 30 days are deleted during routine measurement collection. The purpose and legitimate interest are to diagnose performance problems using limited technical information. This measurement does not build advertising profiles or make decisions about individual readers.

External images, media and links

Some articles load images or embedded media from WordPress, YouTube or the original publisher. Those services receive technical request information when your browser loads their content and may apply their own cookie or privacy settings. A social sharing link opens the relevant external service when you choose it. Following a link takes you to a website with its own privacy policy.

FormSubmit, Gmail, hosting providers and external media services may process information outside the European Economic Area. Their privacy policies describe their processing locations and applicable safeguards. The site does not sell contact messages or its performance records, and its own code does not run advertising pixels.

Your choices and rights

You can ask for access to personal information held about you, correction, deletion or restriction of its use. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests and request portability where that right applies. Email reinouttebrake@gmail.com with enough information to identify the relevant correspondence. Requests are normally answered within one month; complex requests can require an extension permitted by data protection law. Proportionate identity verification may be needed before personal information is disclosed.

You can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority, Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or your local supervisory authority. This notice will be updated when the website’s relevant processing changes.
