Kingdom Hearts Cloud Access Ends in 2027. Players Must Pay Again

Square Enix is releasing Kingdom Hearts locally on Nintendo consoles. Players who bought the cloud versions face a bill to keep playing after June 2027.
The cloud editions launched on Switch in February 2022. Sales stopped this June, and the service shuts down on 9 June 2027. After that, those versions will no longer be playable.
The new Kingdom Hearts Collection [I–III], released on 8 October, runs locally on Switch 2. It includes HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III with Re Mind. The collection also launched on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows.
Existing cloud players can transfer their saves and receive discounts on the corresponding digital releases. Owners of the complete cloud collection qualify for 50% off the new digital bundle. There is no free replacement.
For the original Switch, only HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX gets a local release. The physical Switch 2 collection still requires an additional download, but the games themselves run on the console.
The practical consequence is clear: keeping your progress does not mean keeping access. Once the cloud service closes, continuing requires another purchase.
Should existing cloud owners get the local versions for free?
